Flinderstreet Cafe
I’ve checked in to Fliderstreet Cafe at least 17 times and still not the duchess! How is this possible? This Cafe is obviously doing something right. I sat down with the owners to find out what they’re doing right and here’s what I discovered:
1.Aussie Roots. Flinderstreet Cafe is named for the Flinders Street train station in Australia. Who would’ve thought there’d be an homage to our friends down under in little ‘ol Chino. The owners are originally from New Zealand so this was their way of paying tribute to their roots.
2. Meat Pies. This is the only place I know of in this area that has an assortment of meat pies on the menu(think chicken pot pie-only better). They’re a common snack in New Zealand. Jaime and his dad shared that this a common food to eat on the go back in their homeland. Give me a meat pie over a fast food hamburger any day.
3. Thirsty? This cafe is stocked with quite an assortment of beverages. For the coffee fiends they’ve got a great selection of caffeinated drinks using an actual espresso machine. More of a tea drinker? They’ve got you covered. (Pro tip-check in on yelp and get a free tea) Maybe you prefer soda? Well, they’ve got soda straight out of glass bottles for a different flavor than you get from a can or machine.
4. Freshly Baked Everything. Jaimie’s parents had a bakery back in New Zealand and are now delighting Chino with their skills in the form of Cookies, Pies, Cakes, Macarons, and Freshly baked bread. Seriously, you knead to try it!
5. Family. If you haven’t already guessed it, family is key to the Flinderstreet Cafe. Jaime handles daily operations, his parents bake and his sister does everything in between. When you visit, you become part of the Flinderstreet Family and when you’re family you get cookies-seriously. At one point during your meal someone from the FC clan comes around and offers a cookie or bite sized dessert for you to try.
